Marco Sturm’s Germany win the Deutschland Cup

The ice hockey team of the German national team has defended its title at the four-team Deutschland Cup.


The United State were beaten by the Germans 2-5 on Sunday to win the Deutschland Cup.  This was the first tournament by Marco Sturm’s, head coach of the German ice hockey national team since taking the job last summer.

During the first 20 minutes of play, Dominik Kahun, Patrick Hager and Phillip Gogulla bent the twine, staking Germany to a 3-0 lead going into the first intermission.
Halfway through the second, Tim Stapleton wan able to close the gap to two for the Americans. The three-goal lead was reestablished by David Wolf struck for the German shortly afterwards. Before the end of the period, Ryan stoa scored to keep the Americans within reach.  

David Wolf was able to put his second during the last minutes of the third after the American pulled their goalie out which made the net empty for David Wolf to score.

The new coach and GM were pleased with the way his team performed in the annual mini tournament.
“Everybody trained well, all did their bit, “ Sturm told broadcaster of Sport1 after the game came to an end. “it was a lot of fun , we deserved to win”  He also noted that “ there are still some things that we have to do better. There is still some time until the World Championship and we plan to use it.”
